Bipolar disorder is easily concealed behind a straight face. Flux is a symptom that you can easily notice in a manic depressive.
Manic depression causes people to switch between moods time and again, experience insomnia, and generally behave erratically. Forms or stages of bipolar disorder are more than one, and as can be expected, people show varying degrees of response while suffering from it.
Numbering four in forms and stages, manic depression can be a force to reckon with. The four types of manic depression come with intimidating tags like Bipolar I, Bipolar II, Cyclothymia and Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.
Manic depression in a Bipolar I patient does not necessarily depict itself in an episode of depression, but a mixed episode does. This diagnosis does not eliminate all chances of a depressive episode, which for the records occur very frequently.
Bipolar II cases happen more frequently and it is usually characterized by familiar episode (the least is one) of depression and hypomania. Hypomania frighteningly happens time and again accompanied by minor episodes of depression when dealing with a Cyclothymic.
The normal functioning of a Cyclothymia sufferer is greatly upset by casual looking mood fluctuations. Now when we are certain that someone has bipolar disorder but cannot place under any of the earlier three, then it has to be Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (BDNOS).
Even an experience doctor can mistake a bipolar patient for someone with clinical depression. The occurrence or frequency of manic depression in a single family needs to be investigated and established while treating a patient.
